STEM Pathways Event is Dec. 19

Students in Grades 6-8 and their families are encouraged to join us for STEM Pathways on December 19 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm at Vista Del Sur Accelerated Academy, 3908 W. South Mountain.

This SciTech Council sponsored event focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.  Participants will have the opportunity to interact with elementary schools, high schools, jr. colleges, universities, non-profits, and STEM Industry in order to create an individualized STEM Pathway.

If your child is interested in pursuing a STEM career, you do not want to miss this event.

5th Annual Laveen Winter Festival is December 7

Winter Festival GraphicEach year, the Laveen Elementary School District hosts a Winter Festival for the community. The fifth annual Laveen Winter Festival is scheduled for Friday, December 7, 2018. The event runs from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the LEC lawn, 5001 W. Dobbins.

This year’s Winter Festival will feature obstacle courses (for both big and little kids), games, activities, student performances, photo opportunities, holiday gift vendors, food, and much more!

Admission is free. Tickets will be available for purchase for select activities. Credit cards accepted.

All proceeds benefit the Laveen Education Foundation.

National School Lunch Week is October 15-19

There is “lots2love” about school lunch and that is the theme of this year’s National School Lunch Week.

Cafeterias will be providing free lunches during the week of October 15 to all students to encourage them to try the many nutritional meals cafeterias offer.  The Child Nutrition Department will offer a special menu that includes heart-shaped chicken nuggets, soft pretzels, and potatoes.

All meals are prepared to federal nutritional guidelines and include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. The menus are specifically designed to provide nutritious meals for growing children. Visit www.laveeneld.org/menu for more information.

AVID Students Prepare Food For Malnourished Children

Cheatham’s 8th grade AVID students volunteered at Feed My Starving Children. Students prepared enough meals to feed 93 children one meal per day for an entire year!

This was the group’s first community service project of the year. They hand packed rice, soy, dried vegetables and a nutritionally complete blend of vitamins and minerals into bags. The bags are then shipped to Feed My Starving Children’s food partners for distribution to malnourished children around the world.
